DIY Kitchen Drawers, Cupboards and Benches

The kitchen area consists primarily of an “L” shaped bench with cupboards and drawers above and below. Based on a standard household design, the cupboards are finished in a 2-pac laquered finish, with a black laminated benchtop. The bench tops are 5mm lower at the wall side, to provide a slight slope away from the center of the bus, that will hopefully help in the prevention of items rolling in the corridor.

Main kitchen area
This side of the kitchen contains the sink area, the electric stovette and microwave oven. It features 2 x 2400 watt inverters, with one supplying the stove and microwave, and the other is just for general appliance usage. We have not bothered installing 240 volt powerpoints or wiring in this area, as it is easier to use multiple inverters instead.

The sink features a modern dual faucet combination with a retractable water outlet on a flexible hose. This should help economize on water usage as you can take the outlet right down into the sink to rinse items. There is a seperate outlet for potable water just for drinking purposes, to fit in with our plan of having 2 seperate water supplies.

This way, the drinking or potable water can be kept purer and is refilled only with quality water or from the ducted roof guttering system when it rains. The general water supply can be topped up from decent river supplies by pump if things get tough, as creek water is fine by us for showering or boiling to wash dishes with. This secondary “non-potable” water tank is actually filled through a reverse osmosis water filtering system that apparently will provide safe drinking water, but who knows.
