Dinette
The Dinette
DIY dining setting and bed combo
As much and all as we hate ‘em, we settled on the standard caravan folding table dinette. As we are building in such a small space compared to our original 40 foot bus to motorhome conversion, every inch counts, and seats without storage beneath are just not an option.
The table folds down to form the base of the 2nd bed, and the cushions are re-arranged to form the mattress base.
The extra pantry or storage cupboard was all constructed from ply and meranti framing at the same time. Meranti is an excellent framing material for DIY motorhome construction as it is lighter than pine, and easy to work with.

The seat bases were framed, glued and screwed, then sheeted with 6mm ply, contoured to avoid sharp edges for both the sitting or sleeping positions. The table was built on a slide so that it could be adjusted more to the left or right to provide easier access into the corner seating position.
Then the whole frame was glued with construction adhesive and screwed with fine thread self drilling screws to the floor and front wall studs. It aint going anywhere now.

The wall space above the dining setting will accomodate an extra metal framed fold-down bunk bed, to boost our total sleeping positions to 4. This small motorhome will carry 3 when travelling, yet sleep 4 when camping. Handy for the drop-in guests, or is that drop-out?
